Schrock of a Lifetime - Not really sure what to make of Mike Rogers' outing allegations against a conservative Republican congressman from my one-time hometown of Virginia Beach, VA. Rogers has lots of links in his story, but not one of them concerns his central contention that the 63-year-old married Navy veteran engages in illicit liasons with other men through an anonymous telephone hotline.

I suppose some folks accept the gospel according to Rogers, but color me a bit more skeptical. This seems like a particularly difficult allegation to prove, too. (What user of MegaMates is likely to come forward into the glare of a media frenzy? And where's the link to the congressman's online profile?) Until a more legitimate source picks up this ball and runs with it, I consider it total apocrypha. And this site doesn't qualify.

But what if it were true? Speaking hypothetically, I believe it is far more legitimate to publicize this kind of actual hypocrisy by an elected public official than to drag through the mud all those out staffers who neither hide their orientation nor support all of their bosses' anti-gay positions. As such, this may well be the first acceptable action in Rogers' whole outing campaign. If only I could believe him.

P.S. Sorry about the title. Bad punning is contageous.
