Hands-Off - I was recently emailed by a 16-year-old Middle Eastern kid who said he was coming to the United States for the summer and who expressed appreciation of my online profile. As if I needed any more reasons not to reply, stories like this one supply plenty. But I do feel sorry for the kid. Complain as we might, homos have it pretty good here -- even in Virginia -- compared with gay life in the Arab world. (See this article about a gay-rights group that was attacked at a recent pro-Palestinian rally in London.) Unless my correspondent is coming here to stay, I fear that a brief taste of tolerance and freedom during summer vacation is only going to make the return to his old world that much worse.
