Not Like They Do Any Work on Friday Anyway - As we all know, this Friday will be a national day of mourning to honor former President Ronald Reagan. Despite the federal and D.C. governments closing for the day (along with the stock markets and various other organizations), Police Chief Ramsey has asked that Washington-area employees use mass transit or telework Wednesday through Friday(!) due to anticipated street closures and increased security measures.

Now, I'm all in favor of an extra national holiday this Summer, but back in the real world where people work for a living, all this sounds pretty ridiculous. One local law firm (which shall remain nameless) that plans to open normal hours on Friday gave its employees this helpful advice: "Since funeral services will be held beginning at 11:30 am, a smooth morning commute is expected, and because any closed roads should be reopened well in advance of the evening commute, the rush hour drive home will also be fine." So much for that holiday!
