The Day After - My friend Mikey is promoting a new Monday night event upstairs at Tom Tom Club on 18th Street. No, it doesn't have a post-apocalyptic theme. Rather, "Day After" joins the burgeoning indie-rock queer alternative scene here in DC, joining "Taint," "BlowOff," and "GQB." (Watch out, JR's and Cobalt!) The place pretty much lived up to its billing as a "laid-back setting" with "comfy couches and more pillows than the Spanish Inquisition." (?) It never got crowded and so had more the feel of a SoHo loft party than an AdMo bar. This is a good thing. The TVs playing MNF only made the scene less contrived. Brian, however, thought he might be able to contribute to improving the music mix -- since merely throwing Death Cab in the CD changer doesn't instantly make for hip listening. The a/c could also stand cranking up, especially in the back of the bar. Quibbles aside, I'll definitely be coming back for more.

I saw science blogger Michael and may have also ID'd sexy and famous-for-DC Toby. If I can get Chrisafer and Kyle and possibly Jimbo to come out next time, it can be a reunion. But I wouldn't want word of our presence to spread -- who wants crazed gay blogging fans to crowd your chill Monday night watering hole?
