Gone South - Well, I'm heading downstate to Norfolk for a visit with sis and the old head office. Ben has meanwhile decided that south-central L.A. is a safe destination this week while BfT is in New York. Since the blogging will therefore be light, here's a couple of items from the hopper to hold you over:

  • Forum Shopping - The WaPo issued an editorial this week blasting the Virginia trial court's ruling in the Miller-Jenkins lesbian-moms child-custody case as "cruel and predictable." The paper intimated that the biological mom improperly sought out Va. as an anti-gay jurisdictional refuge. Clearly, the Affirmation of Marriage Act in Lisa's home state helped defeat an adverse custody ruling in Vermont, where her brief civil union was formed and then dissolved. Possibly, that's an illegitmate extension of the AMA statute to trump basic interstate child-custody law. On the other hand, the two mommies had very tenuous connections to Vermont to begin with. So who's to say it's more wrong for a Virginia court to enforce local anti-gay public policy than it is for Janet to try to import gay-friendly Vermont law into the Commonwealth?
  • Ruggers Regardez - It had to happen, right? Your professional rugby club's naked player calendar is an international blockbuster, so how do you follow up? By publishing a "Making of the Calendar" DVD and companion book, natch. (Sure, I'll link you to some behind-the-scenes photos.) This is the gay swimsuit edition, folks.

See y'all later... I'll check in when I can.
