Sacrifices We Make - I first caught wind of the Big Gay Boycott by hearing the end of a report on last night's Marketplace on WAMU. (Is it offensive that Brit-accented Washington reporter John Dimsdale used a musical outtake from Blur's "Girls & Boys" for the story transition?)

Being a skeptic, I have a hard time enthusing about this Atlanta-based effort to "drop out" of the national economy for a single day, October 8th. Participating apparently entails not only refusing to make any retail purchases that day (are you listening Ben!?) but also taking part in a general strike ("call in sick or use a personal day") as well as a ban on using cell phones. With so little time or money to publicize this event, I don't see it gaining much traction, and boycotts that have no discernable effect are usually a pretty bad idea.
