Development to Leap the River? - Proving itself to be the biggest baseball booster of all, the WaPo offers a rosy projection that a new Expos stadium on the north side of the Anacostia River, combined with a possible new soccer stadium on the opposite bank, could fast-track the 20-year, $8 billion redevelopment plan for the District's "forgotten waterfront." While officials enthuse over riverfront sporting complexes and thoughts of developers rushing to build housing, offices and retail projects on adjacent parcels, it remains to be seen how nearby neighborhoods -- the city's poorest -- feel about being MCI-Centered.
