HyperDOMA - If Virginia's Affirmation of Marriage Act was an atomic bomb against gays, nuking our relationships in the eyes of the law, then the proposed constitutional amendment in Ohio is a hydrogen bomb. The text forbids the creation or the recognition of "a legal status for relationships of unmarried individuals that intends to approximate the design, qualities, significance or effect of marriage." It's the legislative equivalent of overkill. All that would be left of unmarried coupledom (gay and straight) would be radioactive ash. But will reasonable voters take notice? Has the bigot brigade finally gone so far that moderate middle-Americans will start to say "enough"? Tune in for November.
