Putting the Pressure on Ahnuld, Ben

With the passage yesterday of a same-sex marriage bill in the California Senate, the Golden State is just three Assembly member votes away from legislatively sactioning gay nuptuals. (The lower house narrowly voted down the measure earlier this year, but now has another shot.)

If the legislature endorses gay marriage, then the heat will be on Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. With aspirations for national office, the Guv has been reluctant to support anything beyond domestic partnerships. But should Ahnuld cave in to the momentum of history, my trusty co-writer Ben may suddenly find himself called upon to make an honest man out of his partner Kevin. (Or he may yet get saved by the local bigot brigades and their anti-homo referenda this Fall.) Stay tuned.
