The Influence of South Park

What else can explain the Sacramento Bee's choice of headline on Schwarzenegger's rejection of the newly passed gay marriage legislation: "Big gay rights bill set for veto"?

The LATimes has a nice editorial criticizing the Governator, especially his cowardly willingness to defer to an unelected judiciary. That presents problems, as David Broder, musing about SCOTUS nominations in today's WaPo, provides in this history lesson: "Liberals, like conservatives, need to know that lasting changes in this country must be ratified by public opinion, and the public speaks most clearly through its elected officials." It's a shame Ahnuld missed the chance to put a stamp of legitimacy on an action the California supreme court will now probably take anyway.
