Pay No Attention to the Air Raid Sirens

Yesterday, Washington's tightly wound air defense network triggered an evacuation of the U.S. Capitol and the White House. (Located down the block from Chris and me, our own "alert" came only when we heard the sonic booms of F-16s heading for intercept.)

Now I ask you, does it seem wrong that the navigation blunders of a truck driver and a vacuum cleaner salesman have the leaders of the most powerful nation on Earth ducking for cover? And what does it tell us about who is really running the country when it is revealed that Dick Cheney was at the White House working while Bush was mountain biking in a suburban Maryland park?
