Thanks, Uncle Sam! - Not long after Jamie and I moved into the rowhouse on Capitol Hill, the pamphlets started appearing on our front steps. They promised lucrative tax deductions for "donating" the perpetual historic preservation of our home's façade to a local trust -- if only we'd attend a free seminar. (The fees would come later, if we let the Capitol Preservation Alliance do all the paperwork for us.) Of course, since we live in a historical district, we are pretty much prohibited from altering the house, anyway. But as the WaPo reports in a major two-part exposé on the questionable tax dodge, that hasn't stopped lots of DC homeowners, such as Ben's buddy Steve Inskeep, from cashing in. If it's good enough for NPR hosts, shouldn't we take advantage?
