Thought Crimes - Conference committee negotiators from the House GOP are worried they might be sent to jail for hating homos. Or something. That's their explanation for scrapping the addition of gays and lesbians to the protection of the federal hate crimes statute. Careful readers of this blog will recall that the Senator Gordon Smith pushed the Senate to pass the measure in July as a salve to his gay supportors just before he stabbed them in the back by voting for the constitutional ban on same-sex marriage. All things considered, I'm fine with no hate crimes law if it also means no FMA.
