Area Code Envy - In today's WSJ there's an article on one side benefit to voice over internet telephone service: the ability to get a highly coveted area code even though you may not live in that area. Here's a link to the poor man's version of the story (with no registration required) which notes that "some subscribers may have an emotional attachment to their area code and with some area codes there may be a prestige factor - for instance, as with New York City's 212 area code." The WSJ goes so far as to note that the other prestige area codes are: 213, 310, 312, 415, 617. Looks like sticking with crappy AT&T Wireless for all these pre-number-portability years paid off!
