Blame It On Hamilton - Barely a day goes by, it seems, without another comment on the growing legal confusion over gay families. Today, the National Law Journal checks in on the trans-jurisdictional Miller-Jenkins case in Vermont and Virginia. (Free registration required.)

The article notes that Maine -- which like the Commonwealth does not recognize gay marriage or civil unions -- has held a former domestic partner to be a "de facto parent" of a minor child who was born through artificial insemination during the couple's relationship. Virginia, however, is trending more towards Oklahoma, where a lawsuit is now pending to prevent bigoted local laws from stripping gay parents of their adoptive children when passing through the state. God bless our federal system, eh?
