Kill This Amendment - So says the lead editorial in today's Washington Post. And unless the god squad procures a miracle, it looks like we'll see exactly that today. While the conclusion may be foregone, it will be interesting to see how a select list of currently uncommitted Senators vote: Lugar (R-IN), Voinovich and DeWine (both R-OH), Specter (R-PA), Gregg and Sununu (both R-NH), and Landrieu and Breaux (both D-LA). And stay tuned for November: the electoral fall-out of the GOP's high-risk "win by losing" strategy is also far from certain.

UPDATE: The vote is in. That didn't take long. The FMA supporters did not get even a simple majority on cloture. (I'll look for it, but I'm not sure you can get the roll call online until later.)

UPDATE 2.0: Here are the details at C-Span.org. The fifty "yea" votes were in favor of the FMA supporters fell ten short of the 60 needed to pass. The 48 "nays" were clear votes against the amendment. (Kerry and Edwards were the only two senators not voting.)
