A Few Good Men - A humorous story about British Marines being propositioned by "swarms of gay local farmers" during the Afghan campaign. The soldiers apparently found the hustlers more frightening than al Qaeda. The L.A. Times had carried an analysis of this phenomenon some time back, but I couldn't find the link. (Ben?)

One has to wonder about the appropriateness of the word "gay" to describe these people. They live in a society where contact between men and women are severely curtailed, so it would perhaps be natural for men to find companionship (or more) among each other. "Situational homosexuality" is a fact of life, but one that complicates the propaganda eminating from most gay-rights group, who have bound gay equality to the concept of genetic predetermination. The constant refrain "it's not a choice!" merely demonstrates the extent to which non-gays have always defined the terms under which we would be entitled to equal rights. But perhaps concepts such as heteroflexibility are far too nuanced to make any headway in the arena of public opinion.
