Nothing's Easy Any More

Chris noticed that Friendster now has a new category of relationship status. When creating or updating one's profile, in addition to traditional choices "Single," "In a Relationship," and "Married/Domestic Partnership," you can now select "It's Complicated." I'm not surprised the largest social networking site would use one of the softer euphemisms, compared to gay-oriented Connexion.org (with its "In an Open Marriage" choice) or Bearprofiles.com ("Open Long-Term Relationship"). And let's not get started on Manhunt.net.

I wonder: Is the addition of such categories to a largely straight website like Friendster an indication that Stanley Kurtz was right after all?
